SEVAK GRIGOYAN

Sevak Grigoryan

Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Sevak Grigoryan’s artistic journey began at the age of eleven, when he joined the Sculpture Department of the Republican Centre for Aesthetic Education. He continued his studies at the P. Terlemezyan Art School before graduating in Sculpture from the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts in 2003. His pursuit of artistic knowledge later took him to Florence and Rome, where he deepened his understanding of sculpture, medallic art and the alchemy of materials at the prestigious School of Medallic Art of the Italian State Mint.

Although he has lived abroad for many years, Grigoryan maintains an intimate and enduring connection with his homeland. Armenia’s history, its cultural heritage and the suffering endured by its people under violence and oppression remain central to his artistic vision. His work carries these stories, giving form to collective memories, inherited wounds and the resilience of a people whose identity has been repeatedly challenged.

For Grigoryan, the creation of beauty is more than an aesthetic pursuit: it is a deeply personal necessity and an act of resistance. Through the expressive language of sculpture and the luminous presence of gilded surfaces, he seeks to confront darkness with beauty, violence with tenderness, and destruction with the enduring possibility of hope. His works become both tributes to his Armenian heritage and reflections on the universal human capacity to endure, remember and create in the face of adversity.
