JOREN VAN ACKER 'BEYOND THE BLUE STONE

Joren Van Acker: BEYOND THE BLUE STONE

We are delighted to invite you to ‘Beyond the Blue Stone’, the third solo exhibition by Joren Van Acker at STUDIO23. Join us for the Vernissage on Friday, October 30, starting at 7 PM, and discover a new chapter in the artist’s evolving practice. The exhibition will be open throughout the weekend, and we warmly encourage you to come by, experience the works in person, and celebrate this new milestone with us.

Continuing to draw inspiration from the world around him, Joren takes us deeper into the often closed-off world of maritime and harbour life. As a boatsman, he has privileged access to a reality that remains hidden in plain sight. His colleagues, the ships he steers, and the ever-changing horizons he encounters become an inexhaustible source of inspiration — an ongoing state of creative overload, where everyday observations grow into images that resonate far beyond their immediate surroundings.

Over the years, Joren’s visual language has continued to evolve. What began with a close observation of the maritime world has grown into an increasingly personal and layered body of work. His distinctive approach to light, atmosphere and composition lends familiar scenes a new sense of depth, balancing the tangible reality of harbour life with moments of stillness, ambiguity and contemplation. In this new series, that evolution becomes particularly tangible: through experimentation with techniques and materials, Joren pushes beyond the boundaries of his established practice, opening up new possibilities in the way he translates his surroundings onto paper.

The exhibition's title refers to the one-metre strip of stone separating the dock from the water. For Joren, this boundary is both a physical reality and a metaphor: the edge of one world and the threshold of another. To step beyond it is to embrace freedom, venture into the unknown, and discover new horizons. It is an idea that runs throughout the exhibition — not only in the world Joren observes, but also in the artistic territory he continues to explore.

With ‘Beyond the Blue Stone’, we invite you to discover these new works up close and experience the next step in Joren’s journey. Whether you have followed his practice for years or are encountering his work for the first time, we would love to welcome you to the Gallery.

Join us for the Vernissage on Friday, October 30, from 7 PM, or visit us throughout the opening weekend. Come share a drink, meet the artist, discover the exhibition, and celebrate this new chapter with us. The exhibition runs until Sunday December 20.

We look forward to seeing you at STUDIO23.
